First, I need to explain that I am very new to crocheting, so my terminology might not make sense to you. Please feel free to correct any information and let me know, so that I can pass it on. I have taught several people how to make these purses and most have said that it is too much work!

Materials:
Size G crochet needle
2-3 rolls of crochet nylon
pull tabs 500 – 1,000

Basic Purse Base:
Chain stitch 10 for small purse up to 30 for a larger purse
Add two cs turn and begin single crochet in second link of chain
Place three sc in the last cs and turn
Place three sc in corners as you add to your base
When the base is as wide and long as you want, change to a double crochet - do not cut the thread
Begin to place pull tabs – you must use two side by side to begin. The back side of the tab will face you, the front part of the tab will be up against the dc. I like to start at a corner. There should be two or three dc between tabs for spacing. You will have overlap if you don’t allow for this. With the loop on the needle, begin to add your pull tabs. Hold tab 1 in place, place tab 2 three dc down from tab 1. Pull the thread through tab 1 and grab the tread through tab 2, You will have three loops on your needle. After you have pulled the thread through tab two, bring it through one loop., leaving two loops on the needle. Go back to tab 1 and grab the thread. Pull it through the remaining two loops. Repeat .You will have two sc holding your tabs together. Add your next tab and continue around the purse. It is IMPORTANT that you have the same number of tabs on each end. If you have one more or less on one side and add a flap over it will work out fine.

Most of the purses I make now are used with this pattern. I just alter the style after I go up about ten rows.

Best of luck,
Peggy
